From thousand of lines I learnt how to break down my competition link profile and see the number of links, the domain age (DA), trust Factor(TF) and then grouped them in authority from high to low. This is when I finally had success, I could see how they were using there links exactly what pages where getting home page links, inner page links.

So the next software I purchased was Ahrefs which is more expensive than Semrush, especially for us Aussies. It allowed me to find links easier but certainly does not explain the whole story of any website.They were using PBNS and then the internet changed for ever.

These link farms were taken down and people had reinvent seo without these farms. Pure and simple. I ended up ranking my site in the top 5 for 3 pages when you understand what profile your competitor has and how to make your profile stronger and better.

I used Foundation Links a lot as they are still required, no follow links are still required, follow links are required, forum and web 2.0 links are still value just do not add the link juice as most are no follow. Which when building a profile hiding in plain site is a must.

So now 11 years on I have decided to open Fuelled SEO. Since my first success I have only done linking myself , your get better quality links and very targeted approach.
